GEMS

Girls currently in 2nd-8th grade are welcome to join GEMS Girls’ Club.  GEMS stands for Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior.  Our club meets roughly every other Wednesday evening from September – April.

Purpose

GEMS Girls’ Club provides an opportunity for girls to form friendships and encourage one another in our Christian walk.  The organization’s motto is taken from Micah 6:8 – What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with our God.

Regular meetings include a time of praise and worship, Bible lessons, badgework and/or craft projects.  Our regular meetings are held at Cottage Grove Church; we also have special events throughout the season.

Annual Theme

Each year, GEMS clubs have an annual theme to guide their Bible study.

The 2017-2018 theme is In His Steps, based on 1 John 2:6 – Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

Jesus died for us, but what does this mean in our lives?  This year, our club will focus on what Jesus has done for us and challenge each other to then live

A bit of our history

We are a local club in a ministry to girls around the world… perhaps you know someone who was once a GEM (or Calvinette) herself back in the day!

1958 – Original organization established in Grand Rapids, Michigan as Calvinettes

1960 – Local clubs organized at Cottage Grove and First Christian Reformed Church of South Holland

1995 – Organization begins transition to GEMS Girls’ Clubs name

2006 – Clubs at Cottage Grove and First CRC join forces
