At Church

Our church choir rehearses every Sunday at 4 pm, sings in two services every month and performs an annual Easter cantata.

Our church is a musical congregation.  We encourage anyone with musical gifts, whatever their instrument (voice included!) to assist us musically in worship.

Audio-Visual / Sound

Every service, qualified volunteers operate our audio-visual and sound equipment.

Ushers come half an hour before each service to distribute bulletins and escort people to their seats.

Greeters stand in the hallway behind the sanctuary before each service to greet all who come their way.  The secretary maintains a rotating schedule of members of the congregation who wish to be on the greeters’ list.  The same is true of those who provide Sunday morning coffee.  In addition, a list of volunteers routinely provides cookies for Sunday morning coffee.

Children’s Message

On the first Sunday of every month, a volunteer offers a five-minute children’s message for the children of the congregation.

The Council

The council consists of the elders and deacons together and governs in matters of common concern to both groups of leaders and the congregation as whole.  For example, the council drafts the budget for the congregation’s approval, oversees the hiring of staff, the church’s ministries, infrastructure and day-to-day operations, and the process of electing new elders and deacons.

The Elders

The Elders are the spiritual leaders of the church whom God has called to provide spiritual oversight, care and accountability for the members and also the pastor.

The Deacons

The Deacons are the ‘ministers of mercy’ who lead the congregation in the stewardship of its finances and in contributing to the needs of individuals and other not-for-profit ‘kingdom causes’ doing God’s work locally and around the world.

Building and Grounds

Building and Grounds oversees the physical plant, operations, maintenance, and the work of the secretary and the custodians.

Meals and Service

Meals and Service (usually called ‘Pastoral Care’) consists of two council members who arrange for congregational members to prepare and deliver meals to individuals and families in times of need.

Visitation Staff

Our visitation staff assists the pastor in the ministry of visitation, particularly with the sick, those who are house-bound, hospitalized and those grieving the loss of loved ones.

The Pastor

The Pastor focuses on leading worship, preaching God’s Word, providing leadership to the congregation together with the elders, providing pastoral care and counseling in the congregation and reaching out ‘beyond the walls’ of the local church to those in need or who don’t know Christ.

The Secretary is our church’s office manager who answers the doors and the phones from Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm.  She coordinates the church calendar, provides clerical services for the ministries of the church, keeps the church’s records, produces the weekly service bulletins, facilitates communication and much more.

The Custodians work hard to keep the church clean, set up and take down tables and chairs, open and close the church for a variety of functions, and do some maintenance work inside and outside of the buildings.

The Accountant administers the budget under the oversight of the deacons and council, works with the deacons to prepare the budget, and handles the church’s day to day financial transactions.
